Eleanor Jane Cavanagh of Gorey
« on: Tuesday 21 June 16 05:03 BST (UK) »
Hi
Just located the name of Eleanor Jane Cavanagh of Gorey Wexford named as a daughter of Elizabeth McMilliam of Cambrian Hill, near Ballarat in Victoria, Australia - 1891 Letters of Administration.

My guess: Eleanor is the daughter of William Lee and Elizabeth Earl, and she had a sister Elizabeth Lee b. 1844 Gorey, Wexford.

William and his wife Elizabeth Lee (nee Earl) left for Victoria 1840 to 1852 with one daughter Elizabeth Lee. William Lee has died in Cambrian Hill/Durham Lead area (no evidence) and his widow Elizabeth Lee, nee Earl as married William Currel McMillian in 1855 Victoria.

Can some one help in identifying:
1. marriage of a William Lee to Elizabeth Earl  in Gorey c1840
2. birth of Eleanor Jane Lee c1840 Gorey and possible marriage to a Cavanagh in Gorey
3. birth of Elizabeth Lee (the Younger) 1844 in Gorey
Regards
Keith

Thank you Culbaire and dathai for both your generous finds and the quickness of such a response.

With Eleanor Jane Lee being a minor when married in 1863, and with her name ahead of her sisters on the Letters of Admin of their mother, this is consistant with her being born c1842 in Gorey. Her sister Elizabeth's death age of 89 gives her birth year c 1844.
Name:   Elizabeth Robertson Death Age:   89
Birth Date:   abt 1844 Death Date:   15 Aug 1933
Cemetery:   Smythesdale Cemetery Location:   Smythesdale, Victoria

Name:   Elizth Vic Robertson Birth Year:   abt 1844
Age:   89 Death Place:   Ballarat, Victoria
Father's name:   Wm Lee Mother's name:   Elizth Elizth [error - her son Samuel Earl McMillan's death in 1934 Richmond, Victoria says his mother was Elizabeth Earl]
Registration Year:   1933 Registration Place:   Victoria Registration Number:   15296

The Letters of Admin 1891 for their mother Elizabeth McMillan also gave another piece of information that she acquired land in Gorey from her mother two years earlier (that is 1889).

That possibly means that a widow called Mrs. Earl died in Gorey 1888/89.

New finds and seeking more help, if possible.

I purchased second marriage of Elizabeth Lee to Wm McMillan 1855 in Ballarat Aus; mother of Eleanor Jane Kavanagh, who remained in Ireland.

Age 27, thus birth 1828 Wexford, Ireland. Parents named: Edward Earl, a coal merchant, and Martha Webster; brother James Earl.

First husband William Lee died Aug 1851; doesn't say Ballarat or Ireland. They had two chn living: above Eleanor left in Ireland; Elizabeth b. 1844 now in Victoria; and a child who died.

My resources fail when finding a child Elizabeth Earl b. 1828 in Wexford Co. to Edward Earl and Martha Webster in Wexford County.

Still no marriage for Elizabeth Earl to William Lee c1842. I think 1838 marriage in Ossory Diocese a bit early unless she was only 10 years old.
