He's definitely on Forces War Records: https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/records/7471462/corporal-a-hindle-british-army-royal-army-service-corps/

You do need to sign up for this site in order to be able to read the record though.

Thanks RRTB, I did find that record but was reluctant to join for a month to check out 1 person. I passed that information on to the chap who asked me to find A Hindle  together with a voucher code for £3.95 off a months membership for the site.

Interesting you have a Memorial Committee in Leeds. I'm only down the road and sometimes work out of Bramley. Feel free to message me more info, I may be able to help you out.

I would avoid Forces War Records if I was you. The info they charge for is already in the public domain. Someone on WW2Talk where I mod the 1940 section of the forum will have the same info.

What you really need is a copy of his service records. These will ID his unit and then with that info you can look in the appropriate war diary. There was probably around 100 various RASC units in France during 1940 if not more. Another avenue you could explore is the PoW Liberation Reports at the National Archives. Only around 50% of soldiers completed them but if it did the info will include date and location of capture.

Look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Folks,

I received an email from my friend advising me that A Hindle's christian name was Alfred but he has nothing further on Alfred.

Any further information would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Ian

Update on P.O.W. Cpl. 7340979 Alfred Hindle.

My friend took the plunge and invested £2 for a month's sub. to Forces War Records. Two documents received from them, first, Casualty List 328 saying captured 8/10/1943 in France.

Second, Casualty List 1286, Repatriated 9/11/1943. Previously reported POW in German Hands, Germany, Casualty List 328. Previous Theatre of War, France.

Thanks again to all who replied to my post,

Should that read 8/10/1940?
