The Brady Family of Athenry
« on: Wednesday 22 June 16 22:33 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I'm chasing down some leads on my great granny's whereabouts during the 1911 census.

I have found her, Teresa Beatty (Dublin born) living as a niece with the Brady family of Athenry. I have traced the Brady's back a little and the Mahons (mrs Brady maiden name). The are a well known family and went on to become quite affluent in the following 20 years or so.

My problem comes from the family connection.....I can't find one. Her mothers name was Annie finnegan (Dublin born and living) and her father was one James Beatty (of whom I have no details). On the night of the census Annie was living in a temple bar tenement with her younger daughters. James Beatty is somewhere else (I can't confirm 100%).

If Teresa was truly a niece I'm wondering if anyone knows more about the Brady family background and any connection to this little Dublin girl who is living with them.

Thanks in advance

Val

This looks like her baptism and birth

You probably have all this but there may be clues others pick up on so it handy to have links to her records.

Very confusing
I can see 3 Beatty /Finegan births
The Unknown 1902
Edward 1903 http://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/b45bfb1132637
Mary 1907 http://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/8c63860732551

Looking for Edward in the Census I found this child of the right age adopted

I can't see a marriage for James and Annie.

I should have checked for earlier threads first. I'll never learn

In 1911 Edward Brady has born Meath and in 1901 born Westmeath is transcribed but I'm not sure that is correct.
If there is a connection to a child born in Dublin, it's more likely to be through him.

Annie and James don't seem to have married. If they did, there's no record of it to be found.

Edward does seem to have been adopted out and there were two other girls Mary and Ann born.

The whole story on this side of my tree is very confusing but ye seem to have gotten a handle on it.

I read a thesis online on the  Brady family of Athenry and while the census 1911 was mentioned Teresa was not.

I probably should add that Tereas came back to Dublin but we don't know after how long.

So it looks like Annie took the how many children living, as how many living with her, as opposed to how many still alive.
Have you found Edward Brady's family in Meath?
