Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
You guys never cease to amaze me! All your help has definitely helped me.
I think it's safe to say Elizabeth's mother, was actually Helen Lawson. (not Helen McLean like it says on Elizabeth's death certificate.)
I think you're right Rosie, that Helen was living with the McLean family from the 1841 census, with Elizabeth. I don't know if they were related or not, but maybe that's why someone thought Helen's maiden name was McLean.
It looks to me like Helen got pregnant by William Crawford (who I have yet to find any info on) and she had Elizabeth. She then married John Imrie (who's father is, I believe Donaldson Imrie) then had several children with him.
My Great-Grandfather's name is actually Donaldson Imrie Bowman, and we all wondered how he got his name, since all of his other siblings only have first names, and he being 9 of 10 children had a first and middle name. So that would make sense.
It is very odd that Elizabeth seemed to be treated like she wasn't part of the family. In the 1851 Census, she's listed as "Visitor" and in the 1861 Census, she's listed as "General Servant". She's never listed as daughter, which is quite sad.
I searched all over, and still have yet to find Helen's parents, and a lead on William Crawford.
But, thanks again so so much everybody for all the tips, you're amazing!
