The Day Sussex Died

Good evening,

Tomorrow, 30th June, remember all the men of 11th, 12th and 13th Battalions Royal Sussex Regiment who died  or were wounded at the battle of Boars Head.

In particular, company sergeant major Nelson Carter VC who died carrying wounded to safety.

Casualties were; 11th batt 116 men,  12th batt 429 men,  13th battalion almost wiped out.
In total 366 dead and over 1000 wounded or POW. This includes 12 sets of brothers.

They gained for themselves 1 VC, 1 DSO, 4 MCs, 8 DCMs and 20 MMs.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
