Duncan & Rachel FRASER (n URQUHART/URCHARD) - DUTHIL

Greetings from Australia,

I am interested in BIRTH, DEATH, BURIAL & RESIDENCE information on the following two people (husband and wife):

Duncan FRASER
•   married 4th March 1792 – marriage recorded DUTHIL with ROTHIEMURCHAS

Rachel URQUHART (also spelt URCHARD)
•   married 4th March 1792 – marriage recorded DUTHIL with ROTHIEMURCHAS

Their marriage record concludes “Minister of the Gospel at Duthil” which I assume means that they were married at the church in Duthil?


They had 7 children born christened between 1792 and 1802 – all recorded  DUTHIL with ROTHIEMURCHAS

On their son’s marriage record 1816 the entry is as follows
•   “Peter Fraser, son of Duncan Fraser, Sawmiller at Bridge of Carr”, and I am not sure if this indicates Peter or Duncan as being the sawmiller?

I have been unable to find death records for either Duncan or Rachel, and unfortunately their marriage record does not list their parent’s names or  place of birth.

Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

My 3 x ggrandmother, Colena,  was the daughter of Duncan Fraser and Rachel Urquhart.  I have more info on the Urquhart side, related to the will of Thomas Urquhart:  This is gleaned from a relative who wrote a letter to my Grandfather in 1968:


Peter Fraser - Gillymill Bonf - Scotland
Mary Fraser - Mrs. Anderson - Lochnally Scotland
Elizabeth Fraser Moneymusk - Scotland
Matilda Fraser Ross - Bridge of Carr - Scotland
Donald of South Haven - Michigan USA

Above are names of residuary legaties of Thomas Urquhart's will.  Our grandmother Colena Fraser Campbell, as long as she lived received $1000. per year from the estate of Thomas, her brother (I believe it should be Uncle, not brother). 

I have found little else on The Frasers, which Clan they were, but I have information that Duncan Fraser's parents are buried at the Alvie Church Cemetary.  Some of the others are buried in Duthil.

Would be interested in whatever information you might have.

Duncan Macgregor, E Gallovie, 22.3.1819 45, widow Isabella Fraser, son James, daur Ann, son John, son Alex, son Duncan, son Samuel, erected in 1844.

James McGrigor, Tullochgorm erected, son Duncan E Gallvie 22.3.1819 46; said James McGregor (sic) then at Ouchnoir died 19.6.1827 86, widow Janet Fraser 16.12.1838 92.

Alex Fraser 4.1813, son John died in youth, son Lachlan died in youth; D F M; also Duncan Fraser mason Ellan 30.3.1853 69, wife Anne Ross, 17.1.1873 73, David Fraser died Carrmoor 24.10.1907 79. wife Janet Robertson died Carrmoor 30.7.1908 61.
