1861 census look up please - Shropshire
« on: Thursday 21 July 05 23:54 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Please could someone look up the following family on the Shropshire 1861 census:-

Slaney Callier also spelt Calleer/Callear/Gallier/Gallear b. abt. 1791 in Wellington, Shropshire.
Elizabeth (wife) born abt. 1793 Wellington, Shrops.
Thomas (son) born abt. 1814 in Wellington Shrops.
Letitia (Thomas' wife) born abt. 1815 in Wellington.

Slaney and Elizabeth may not be alive in 1861, however, their son, Thomas and his wife were living with them on the 1851 census and are still living at the same place on the 1871 census.
The place is Captains Wood,  Wellington.

Thanks
Kaz

Hi Kaz

there is only one Slaney Callear in the 1861 census, living with his parents Joseph and Eliza and his and his three brother, Joseph Alfred and Enoch and his sister Emma. This Slaney was 18 years old

sorry

Hi Joanne,

The Slaney you found is not the one I was looking for, in fact I think he may have died, but his son Thomas and daughter in law Letitia should be still living at the same place.

I think the Slaney you found must be related somewhere along the way. I wonder whether Joseph, his father, is my Slaney's brother.  I have no record of him, so I would be grateful if you could let me have his age and place of birth as stated on the census, so that I can try to trace him and see if they share the same parents.  It does seem likely, as Slaney is not exactly a common christain name.

Thanks for your assistance with this.

Kaz,

I am a descendent of Callears who were living in the same area at a similar time. Have you managed to trace Slaney back further? Maybe we have a shared ancestor.

 :)
Callear/Gallear and a growing list of (mis)spellings
