Balgownie tea rooms
« on: Sunday 03 July 16 12:46 BST (UK) »
I would like to find a photograph of the Balgownie tea rooms which were in George Street, Aberdeen.  There was a bakery at the front and the tea rooms were downstairs.  Every Saturday my mother or my aunt used to take me in there for tea and doughnuts.  And apparently my aunt and grandmother worked in the tea rooms at some point.  Any help would be appreciated.

The 1957-58 Post Office Directory gives its address as 150 George Street, on the right hand side as you look north, close to the junction with St Andrew Street. "Balgownie Dairy and Bakery".

That's the one, obviously no longer there.   Fond memories.

A little general history here and an early photo of George Street, using the ref from GR2. http://mcjazz.f2s.com/AberdeenDairies.htm

It may not have been the photo of George Street but it was very useful indeed and I will save it on my family tree album.  Brought back lots of memories and as I don't live in Aberdeen anymore, it was lovely to see it.  I do appreciate you sending me the link. Many thanks
