« on: Monday 04 July 16 15:32 BST (UK) »
Hi

Is it possible to search for Census data for a street, or an individual address, on Scotland's People without knowing a surname or the GROS data ref?

Hibee
Midlothian: Adam(s), Meikle/Muckle
Leith: Bridges
Edinburgh: Brown
Prestonpans: Bird, Inglis
Fife: Wemyss
Orkney: Brock
Ireland: Sweeney

No, you can do it without a surname BUT you need the GROS Registration District, the Registration District Suffix and the enumeration District (from their help section)

Thanks.  I looked up the code for Eastwood in 1911, and inserted 562 into the GROS field, but no success.

I've tried it a few times myself for a family that disappear in the 1911 but unless you have all of the GROS information the search always fails.

Try http://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/research/guides/census-records/1911-census#Street%20indexes

Eastwood isn't listed in its own right but may be under Glasgow - the lists give Registration District and some other numbers which may be useful.

Thanks.  The street I am looking for is on that list (Station Avenue, Giffnock).  Listed as 562(L), but still no joy.

Unfortunately you need ALL of the information  (the system does work as the example they use returns 31 pages).

The districts and their numbers often changed from one census to another but it may be worth trying the details from an earlier census if you have the family in one.

Unfortunately the houses were only built in 1910.

Final throw of the dice - any births or deaths around the time that might help ?
