I'm researching the history of the street, and am not related to any of its previous inhabitants, but thanks for your help.

Hi,
I just put in "Giffnock" in Ancestry and it lists all the people.
If you would like me to get the list of all the names, I will do that for you.
Giffnock lists from 1871.

Better check,
Do you want the ones born there or just the ones that lived there?
Or
Both lists

Thanks very much for that offer.  I am specifically looking for those living in Station Avenue, Giffnock, in 1911.  Any help would be much appreciated.

If you know the actual district that Station Avenue came under (it isn't listed as Giffnock) you can search SP by District

for example the search term -

district:Newton mearns

returns 86 pages in the 1911 census (using eastwood returns 983 pages)

Hi,
Sorry but it doesn't list any people in Station Avenue.
It lists farm names, house names and cottage names, but the road is not included.
I think Scotland's People is the best place to look at the actual Census returns.
Sorry,
Maggsie

Looking at the Trade Directories of the time produces only a couple of names for a home address in Station Avenue Giffnock -

1. John P. Craig -  although strangely the business entry for him lists his home address as May Terrace in Giffnock.
2. F.J Shaw  (no first name given as home address in business)

Older maps show that there was a road leading to the station predating your date for the houses in Station Avenue being built - is Station Avenue the current name or an older name for the street you are interested in?

The current name is May Terrace.  (Shown as Station Avenue in the 1915 Valuation Rolls, and as May Terrace, Station Avenue, in the 1930 Valuation Rolls).
