Abingdon
« on: Tuesday 05 July 16 02:18 BST (UK) »
Hope someone can help me here. I am looking for the christenings of Elizabeth Mabbott c1808 and Charles Mabbott c1803 in Abingdon. I believe their father was Thomas Mabbott.

I would also be grateful if someone could check for a burial of Thomas Mabbott in Abingdon in the March quarter of 1844.

Thanks

Matt

Hi Ian

Thanks for those. These do sound like the people which is great. Can I assume that the ones which don't say 'buried' are christenings?

Are you able to see if there is a record of Thomas Mabbott's marriage in the 1790s at all?

Many thanks again in advance

Matthew

The first date is the baptism, although could not find one for John buried 1811. He more than likely died not long after birth and was not baptised. Burial date added where found noted.

Thomas and Elizabeth were not married at Abingdon St Helens that I could see. Must have been neighbouring parish.

Hi Ian

Many thanks for that again. I'll have to go back to my notes to see if I can work out where Thomas and Elizabeth were married. I know that their daughter Elizabeth married George Honey (b1808 Abingdon)  and they lived in Wantage. I suppose Thomas and Elizabeth might have been married there.

Anyhow many thanks again for the help

Matt

Thomas Mabbet (sic) b abt 1766 copper smith appears in Abingdon workhouse in 1841. It says he was not born in county, so he may not have married in Berkshire.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Hi Lizzie

Many thanks for that. It's a shame that Thomas died before the 1851 census as that would have helped point to where he was born (and possibly married). I wonder if the workhouse records might give some clues as to where he was from?

Thanks again

Matt
