Hi
I am new to researching in depth Irish genealogy and therefore require assistance please.
I am searching for a baptism for a PATRICK FITZPATRICK Cavan the YOB varies on census's 1861 = 1827, 1871 = 1831, 1881 = 1836, 1891 = 1828, thus causing me great difficulties, although I haven't been able to find any baptism's in Cavan for a PF can anyone assist me please.
I have done a bit of research and find that Irish surnames can have variations from previous surnames and FITZPATRICK is one of them:
FITZPATRICK - BANN - Mac Giolla PHADRAIG - Mac SEARTHA
Mac Giolla Phadraig - Mac Gilla Patraic
"Son of Devotee of (St) Patrick of the medieval period
Mac Giolla Phadraigs were heriditary Kings of Osraige.
Today the name is commonly translated to "FITZPATRICK"
So.... does this mean that my Patrick Fitzpatrick could be Phadraig Bann, Phadraig Phadraig, Phadraig Seartha or Phadraig Patraic in a baptism entry
To add a little more info about him, his wife was Mary and they appear on 1861 Cen @ Hawick, Scotland then 1871 Warrington, England where they remain until the 1891 Cen after which I cannot find any possible deaths or them on 1901/11 Census's and have wondered if they returned to Ireland.
MARY LITTLE states born Fermanagh 1827-37 again another headache and again surname LITTLE can be BEAGAIN or BEGGAN - what would Mary translate to
If anyone can help me I would be very grateful, they have eluded me for a few years now
