The marriage 1869 has William as residing in castle hedingham. That's in the halstead registration district. Where does he give as his birth on the censuses?

Just to add that the free site www.freebmd.org.uk has got really good coverage of early registrations and I often find that you can manipulate the data there quite well, often better than Ancestry or FindMyPast. freebmd also allows the use of wild cards both at the end of names and in the middle so if you can search for jef*y and all the variant spellings will be returned.

I would also add that Ancestry's county definitions are not 100% accurate but freebmd's are, based on the regiatration district and the date of the event. Freebmd can accomodate the change of county lines over time.

I also noted you sent a message to the moderators about completing a topic.

There should be a [topic completed] button at the bottom of each of your topics that you can use when you are happy a topic is finished with. This is mainly used when topics and titles can't be edited after 24 hours.

If you click the button by mistake, you can turn it back again as the button changes to [topic not completed].

When you have clicked the button, a green tick appears in the forum index and at the top of the topic.

Saves you having to use the [report to moderator] button or post a 'completed' reply might may be overlooked.

Hope this helps.

Dawn

Thanks Dawn.

I was just following the instructions I'd found on the site.  That looks quicker so I'll do that in future.

The process was amended after a system upgrade in Jan 2015 and the new button installed.
