Often an illegitimate child or a stepson adopted the surname of their stepfather. I note that on the 1851 census he is clearly stated as son of Mary and recorded with Foreman surname, so I doubt Isaac Brown is his father and possibly less likely to use the Brown surname in later life.

I have a family who vanished after the 1851 census - I found the sons by first marriage in USA and second wife and her children in Canada. Have you checked whether he turns up on any censuses abroad?

Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)

I don't think Isaac is the father either. I do not have worldwide access to the census. Although there were a couple of Charles Foreman's in the immigration departure dates the ages were not right.
I thought he may have gone to London to be near his sister but those records too did not match. It is as if he fell off the radar.
Thank you.

Expect you will have investigated the village of Horningsham,by now. But, would just mention that its part of the Longleat House estate, hundreds of farm labourers and an enormous list of servants of every description kept it all going in your time frame 1830s/1860s.
Have had a search but date of births vary a lot,but would imagine Mary would have had some sort of sponsor to baptise her bastard child at St Denys Church which is right in Warminster.
However there is one Charles Foreman who married Julia Mary Churchill 1867 Warminster, her father Cornelius Churchill was publican of New Inn Boyton 1861.    Needs looking at.

In 1871 Charles and Julia are in Salisbury, Charles age 28 b Warminster occ National Schoolmaster.
So unless he lied massively about his age, he isn't the right one.

I just want to let other searchers who live in Australia that you cannot view the family search microfilms at any family Search Centre in Australia. I am not sure though whether that applies to the London Family Search Centre. They send the films to the library on loan & you have 3 months in which to view it.

I believe that in most instances you have to order in films/fiche to your local LDS centre at a charge. The one I used to visit in the late 1990's held quite a few records in the centre but they were mainly ones that had been ordered in by patrons some years before and were retained by the centre and not just on loan as they were when I went.   I can't comment on the records held by them at Kew.
