Catholic baptisms Hawarden 1788?
« on: Sunday 10 July 16 21:45 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me where Hawarden Catholics were baptised in 1788? (I believe this predates Hawarden having its own Catholic church).

Hello writer133,

The Genuki site for Hawarden lists many churches and chapels etc but there is nothing shown for a Catholic church:

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/FLN/Hawarden

The list of churches which is linked to this shows a Catholic church in Connah's Quay:

http://www.genuki.org.uk/cgi-bin/churches?CCC=FLN,GR=SJ315659,DIST=3,PLACE=Hawarden

I wonder when that was built. The church has a site that has a history of Catholicism in North Wales:

http://www.connahsquaycatholicchurch.org.uk/ourstandard.asp?pageid=81

It says that the only Catholics known to be living in Flintshire in 1847, were listed in Holywell.

It may be worth contacting the Flintshire Archives to see if they have any information:

Jo.
