William Bingham b.1826
« on: Monday 11 July 16 15:11 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate any details on William Bingham.  I know he was born in Ireland c.1826, was married in Scotland c.1855 and then lived, until death in 1917, in Birkenhead.  The 1911 census records Co Down as his birthplace.

Is Bingham a common name in Co Down and are there are records that would give me his parents details?

Apologies for troubling you all but I only have experience in English records.

There certainly were Bingham families in Co. Down, you can check the Griffith's Valuation at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ to get an idea of how many families of that name were present in the 1840/50s and which parishes they were in.

As for records that would give his parents details, you will need to look at parish registers, and where to look will depend on what religion he was - finding the record for his marriage may help with that. Many parish registers are available on line.

Do you have any idea what religion? Many Catholic parish registers are online (although may not go back as far as 1820)- R.C. parish boundaries, and names, can differ from civil parish-
http://registers.nli.ie/
Church of Ireland is the other denomination that have parishes but usually the same as the civil one since C. of I. was the State church. Some pay sites might have records but again may not cover dates you are looking for,
Presbyterian, Methodist. etc. records usually not available online although PRONI has a large collection.

Have you found a marriage for him in Scotland? (might list father's name or both parents, etc. depending on the date).

Bigham might be an alternative version of the surname-

Unfortunately without other collaborative details it might be impossible to be sure of verifying any records that are found.
