Re: Joseph Walker
« on: Tuesday 12 July 16 23:43 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the parents of or if he had any brothers or sisters for a Joseph Walker who was born in Wendover, Birminghamshire  in 1810-11.   He died in Coleshill, Buckinghamshire in 1874. He was married to Rachel Griffin in 1845 and had 4 children - Mary (1846), Elizabeth (1849),  Alfred (who married Martha Webb in 1841) and Emily.  He married in 1833 to  Mary Winters and they had 1 child William.
He  remarried to Rachel Griffin in 1845 in Amersham and had 4 children - Mary (1846), Elizabeth (1849),  Alfred (who married Martha Webb in 1841) and Emily.
Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Looking at the 1851 entry - he had an 11yr old son William born Coleshill so must have been married previously

Sorry - just seen you had already posted that info

You need to buy one of them.  The 1851 shows birthplace as Wycombe but the 1861 says Wendover and 1871 Amersham

Hi & welcome to Rootschat.

Could this be your Joseph & family from the 1841 census, HO107/440/17/page 6,
 Winchmore Hill/Coleshill

Joseph Walker aged 30
Mary Walker aged 30
James Walker aged 3
William Walker aged 1
Richard Walker aged 15.

All born in County & confusingly Coleshill came under the Hundred of Dacorum which was Hertfordshire not Bucks back then.

I believe the James born 1837 Coleshill (Herts) who looks to be a son is probably the James Walker found in 1851, HO107/1717/414/page 2 at Quarrendon Farm Amersham a Servant Plough Boy.

Not sure about the 15 year old Richard though as no relationships are given but he would seem to be connected to the family somehow. This could be his baptism record on Family Search, 6th July 1825, Amersham, parents Richard & Jane Walker.

Will keep looking & hope this is of some help. :)

Taken from BucksFHS - St Mary the Virgin, Amersham Parish registers Transcripts CD.

Marriage - 23 Sep 1833.  by Banns.
Joseph(x)WALKER, Bachelor.
Mary(x)WINTER, Spinster of Penn.
Witnesses - James Turner & Lydia(x)Winter.

Banns - 25 May 1845, @ Holy Trinity, Penn.
Joseph WALKER, Widower of Amersham
Rachel GRIFFIN, Spinster otp

Marriage - 9 Jun 1845.  by Banns
Joseph(x)WALKER, aged FA, Widower of Coleshill, parish of Amersham, Labourer son of Richard Walker, Labourer.
Rachel GRIFFIN, aged FA, Spinster of parish of Penn, Bucks.  Daughter of George Griffin, Sawyer.
Witnesses - Richard(x)Walker, Rebecca(x)Griffin & Geo Priest.

Burial - 30 Oct 1844. Mary WALKER, aged 33 of Stock Place, Coleshill, Amersham.
Burial - 28 Aug 1864. Rachel WALKER, aged 52 of Coleshill, Amersham.

No baptism in Penn, BUCKS,  Wendover, BUCKS, PR's, nor Amersham, BUCKS, PR's, for Joseph Walker, 1800 - 1820.

Census returns give p.o.b for Joseph Walker as Wendover(1861), Amersham(1871) & Wycombe(1851).  I would tend to ignore the 1841 census for p.o.b as Hertfordshire, but maybe worth checking if a result can't be found in Bucks.

I would suggest a burial and a baptism search from BuckFHS. £1 for each individual burial and  baptism search.

There are baptisms for his children in Amersham PR's, with both spouses, ie. Mary Winter & Rachel Griffin.

Firstly, which maybe of interest.

Baptism - 6 Jul 1825.  Richard, son of Richard & Jane WALKER, of Winchmore Hill, Amersham, Labourer, private baptism. (Seems to appear in 1841 census with Joseph).

Marriage - 16 May 1819.  by Banns
Richard(x)WALKER otp
Jane BURROWS otp
Witnesses - John(x)Younge & J Priest.

Baptism - 8 Jun 1834. Lucy, child of Joseph & Mary WALKER of Amersham, Labourer.

Baptism - 6 Dec 1846. Mary, daughter of Joseph & Rachel WALKER of Coleshill, Amersham, Labourer.
Baptism - 8 Jul 1849.Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph & Rachel WALKER of Coleshill, Amersham, Labourer.
Baptism - 25 Jan 1852. Alfred, son of Joseph & Rachel WALKER of Coleshill, Amersham, Labourer
Baptism - 29 Jul 1855. Emily' daughter of Joseph & Rachel WALKER of Coleshill, Amersham, Labourer.

From BucksFHS - Holy Trinity, PENN Pr's CD.

Baptism - 11 Jul 1813. Rachel, daughter of George & Rachel GRIFFIN** of Penn, Labourer.

Marriage - 29 Jun 1812   by Banns
George(x)GRIFFIN, Bachelor otp
Charlotte(x)SLATER, Spinster otp
Witnesses - Richard(x)Bovingdon & Elizabeth(x)Carter.

I think the mother as Rachel Griffin** is a mistake, as all other baptisms to George Griffin are with Charlotte.
___________________________________________________________________________

Baptism - 29 Sep 1811.  Mary, daughter of James & Mary WINTER.
Baptism - 7 May 1815. Lydia daughter of James & Mary WINTER of Penn, Labourer. (Witness at Mary Winter marriage.?).

Marriage - 22 Oct 1808   by Banns
James(x)WINTER, Bachelor otp
Mary(x)ROGGERS, Spinster otp
Witnesses - Jothan(x)Winter & Hanah(x)Brook & John Darvill.

Hope this helps a wee bit. ;)

Wow Steve, that's an amazing amount of info, well done. :D Could be then that the marriage for Richard Walker to Jane Burrows in 1819 was possibly a second one & as I've just noticed he is on the opposite page to Joseph & family on the 1841 with an age given as 60 & Jane as 50, he is looking more likely to be Joseph's father.

Can you see another marriage for Richard at all in Amersham. :)

Firstly, from BucksFHS-Wendover PR's.

Richard(x)WALKER, aged FA, Widower of Wendover, Wheelwright son of William Walker, Wheelwright
Mary(x)KING, aged FA, Widow of Ellesborough, Lacemaker daughter of John Saunders, Victualler

These burials may, or may not be connected to Richard Walker.

Burial - 15 Apr 1847. Mary WALKER, aged 48 of Wendover.
Burial - 14 Jun 1859. Mary WALKER, aged 83 of Wendover.

No burial for Richard Walker in Wendover.

Back to BucksFHS - Amersham PR's.

Burial - 9 Dec 1855. Richard WALKER, aged 78 of Coleshill, Amersham.

Not sure if, or how these will fit, until a baptism is found for Joseph Walker, c1810.
