Postcards of Methven
« on: Wednesday 13 July 16 02:56 BST (UK) »
Please could someone assist me.

I have seven or eight postcards and some pics of Methven in Perthshire, Scotland. These postcards were sent between 1913 and 1917 to John Young in Western Australia from his sister Jessie Young in Methven. Also there is a picture of the New School I suppose old school now. Dave Young's "Wee Sweetie Shop" which I think was Archibald Young's (his father) general store. I would like to be able to place these on a map of Methven. Some start from the east or from the south or looking from the school. Also would like to know where the Methven Associate Session (church) held their services.

My family connection is to the Young, Marshall and Rose families of Methven and surrounds. The Youngs were at Needburn farm and the Marshall's at Meckphen. John Young of the postcards was my Great grandfather and Archibald Young his father. Archibald's father James Young married Elizabeth Miller and Mary McVicar, I am related to James Young through both wives. John Young's wife Euphemia Rose was his half first cousin once removed.

Thank you

Evelyn Mitchell
from Western Australia

Possibly this site might help re the church http://methvenchurch.org/history/introduction.html?start=1

You have probably come across the National Library of Scotland maps but just in case you haven't http://maps.nls.uk/view/74962235#zoom=4&lat=10207&lon=13447&layers=BT
