Gladstone family
« on: Wednesday 13 July 16 23:02 BST (UK) »
Can somebody look up a piece in the Aberdeen Journal 7.9.1950. I am trying to find a link between Viscountess Dorothy Mary Gladstone (nee Paget) and the Misses Anne and Felicity Gladstone who attended her Memorial Service on 30.6.1953 at the Queen's Chapel at Marlborough Gate.

If you look at the topic  "Aberdeenshire Resources" you'll see a link for Aberdeen City Libraries. The local studies department will be able to do the look up for you :)

The newspaper article relates to the Aboyne Games and lists  spectators from "Many Lands"
It's a very long list of  spectators organised by place name

The Gladstones were from Glen Dye and party consisted of:
Mr SD Gladstone, Mrs Gladstone, Miss Felicity Gladstone, Miss Anne Gladstone, Mr John Gladstone and Mr NJ Headlam

They must have something to do with the late Sir John Gladstone of Glen Dye ( Banchory, Kincardineshire)

Edit:

I think I know who this family is...
Stephen Deiniol Gladstone, wife Mary St Clair Davidson
Daughters Mary Felicity Gladstone b 1926,  Ann Gladstone b 1928 and son, John Gladstone b 1932

You can see the  family relationships here:

Thanks very much for that. I can now chase up sir John and see what the link is. Felicity later became godmother to David Vernon John Paget in 1959. The plot thickens.

My starting point was Mary Felicity Gladstone, Assistant Matron at a private school.in the 1950s. She and her sister Anne were 3x great granddaughters of Herbert John Gladstone the Prime Minister!

Herbert John Gladstone the Prime Minister!

Herbert John never quite made it to Prime Minister - that was his father William Ewart Gladstone.

Try https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Gladstone,_1st_Viscount_Gladstone

or the link to The Peerage web site already given above.
