Elizabeth Mavery - bapt.. where?? (married 1694 in Didcot)

Hi all,

I have an Elizabeth Mavery who married Thomas Church 28-5-1694 in Didcot, Berks. Thomas was from East Lockinge and they had at least 9 children that I can see.

Elizabeth was buried 1713 as "w/o Thomas"

I have been unable to find any reference to "Mavery" (other than her marriage) either in Didcot, or E.Lockinge or even on FreeBMD, and the IGI .

I believe her name may be something else but whilst I have tried various spellings, nothing comes to hand.

Can anyone please help?

Just one to consider, I have found this Elizabeth (a transcription)

Chieveley, Berkshire
Elizabeth
Parents: John & Mary MAVOLY

Chieveley is about 14 miles from Didcot.

I can't find this name anywhere else only MAVERLY, MAVERLEY and MAVELY, MAVELEY.

Hi Daisy,

Thats a very useful find and I believe its the correct one. Chievely to Didcot and on to East Lockinge is about the same distance.

I did look but couldn't find any other children in Chievely!  Perhaps I rushed it and didn't do a fresh search.

Hi,

Although this Elizabeth looks like a good fit, as I'm sure you know research this far back becomes more difficult to verify. The lack of other children to John and Mary could mean that they moved away amongst other reasons. I think it would be helpful to try and find a death for John and/or Mary to see if they died in the area or even better a will that might mention Elizabeth.
