Hello everyone,
This is my first post so be gentle with me! Although of Irish extraction (Co Wexford) I have little or no knowledge of Irish genealogy sources.
I am in the final phases of compiling a book on the officers who were killed on the Somme on 1/7/16. All of my proceeds from the sale of the book will go to an end-of-life hospice.
I was wondering whether someone with expertise of Dublin and Irish genealogy could help me fill in a few details of the family of the above officer who was killed with the Machine Gun Corps (he originally served with the Leinsters).
My opening text for him runs:-
"Joseph Patrick Aloysius Callaghan was born in Dublin on 13 April 1888 the fourth son of Thomas J Callaghan J.P. (who had business premises at 12-16 Dame Street, Dublin) and Kate Callaghan [1859-]. He had two brothers Thomas D Callaghan of 48, Pemberton Gardens, Upper Holloway, London and Stanislaus P Callaghan of 98 St Stephens Green, Dublin and a sister Catherine Callaghan."
Can anyone help to fill in the gaps please the time period would be 1914-1918?
i) Thomas J - what does the J stand for and what year was he born and what year did he die?
ii) 12-16 Dame Street, Dublin - what was his business?
iii) [1859-] - what year did she die?
iv) Thomas D - what does the D stand for?
v) Stanislaus P - presumably Patrick but was it?
Thanks for reading this and for any help.
Joe
