A difficult one I fear ;D

Hoping for some assistance to locate the birth/baptism of Susannah [various] Beale of Kent who married as second wife to Joseph Newington of Witherenden, Sussex.  Joseph's first wife was deceased by 1587.

Joseph and Susannah's child Bethsua was born in 1591 so a marriage between 1587 and 1592 seems appropriate.

It is possible Susannah was born about 1560 in Kent [taking 21 from her marriage to Joseph Newington in 1589].

Thanks  robo196.  As to this marriage: there are at least 2 Bethsua Newington born around the similar time so I am wondering if the marriage you cite may have included at the least a father's name so I can be sure this is the correct Bethsua?

Regards

A query please - I located a book Calendar of Sussex marriage licences recorded ... v.1. Church of England. in which Bethsua's marriage is recorded as Bethsua Newington of Kingeston Bowsey

I haven't been able to locate a place called Kingeston Bowsey but did find a place called Kingston by Sea.

Firstly any ideas where Kingeston Bowsey is located?

Secondly there were at least 2 Bethsua Newington's one baptised in 1588 at Salehurst St Mary the Virgin daughter of Morgan Newington.  Morgan Newington died at Kingeston Bowsey.

The second Bethsua Newington was baptised 1591 at Ticehurst St Mary daughter of Joseph Newington.  Morgan and  Joseph were brothers.

So which Bethsua Newington married Magnus Byne?

Did either of the brothers leave a will?

Just checked and Ancestry lists wills for Morgan NEWINGTON died 1610 Kingeston Bowsey and Joseph NEWINGTON died 1617 Ticehurst. UK, Extracted Probate Records, 1269-1975

Hopefully they will have left something to their daughters mentioning their married names.

There was an Archdeaconry of Lewes licence issued for the marriage of Joseph and Susannah on 23rd Feb 1589/90
Susannah is shown as of Ticehurst.  Sponsors Thomas Bassett and Jn Bachler

No mention of the actual marriage on the Sussex Marriage Index.

Hello Sillgen & bearkat,

Thanks so much for the link as I didn't receive that notification as my email was suspended:  so the notification probably bounced.

I had a bad case of malware and compromised email address but all OK now. :D

Thats a great explanation of Kingston Bowsey.  As to Wills a good point bearkat and will check it out. :)
