« on: Tuesday 19 July 16 19:02 BST (UK) »
I am hoping that somebody can help me please as these are my great great grandparents because between the 1871 England census and the 1881 England census the pair seem to forget where they were both born as shown below,
1871 Thomas Davies b 1823 I.O.M.
1871 Ann Davies b 1820 Wallasey UK
1881 Thomas Davies b 1823 Wallasey UK
1881 Ann Davies b 1820 I.O.M.
So can anyone please help.

Welcome to Roots Chat.

In 1861 Thomas is born Liverpool and Ann -- Isle of Man.

1851 Thomas - Liverpool
Ann - Isle of Man.

On the face of it -- it looks like it is Ann who was born in Isle of Man. Thomas still can't make his mind up between Liverpool and Wallasey.
Finding their marriage would be useful - but they are common names. I notice that a son was named Thomas Osborne -- wonder if that is a clue about Ann's maiden name --- or possibly he was named after Osborne House!

Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

OK -- the following marriage is on the Lancs On Line Parish Clerk site;

Marriage: 27 Apr 1846 Holy Trinity, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Thomas Davies - Full age, Waiter, Bachelor, Soho Street
Ann Chambers - Full age, Spinster, Duke St.
    Groom's Father: Edward Davies, Tailor & Draper
    Bride's Father: Thomas Chambers, Labourer
    Witness: John Lewis; Jane Allen
    Married by Banns by: Thomas Bibby
    Register: Marriages 1837 - 1850, Page 163, Entry 325
    Source: LDS Film 1656016

This looks to be your couple as Thomas Davies was a waiter on census records.

So next step to find an Ann Chambers born Isle of Man -- in approx correct year -- you have the father's name from the marriage. Then if you find it -- you will know it was Thomas born in Liverpool (or Wallasey!) -- or vice versa.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

There are some Isle of Man baptisms on the Ancestry website.

An Ann Chambers was baptised on 27 Jul 1819 in Patrick, Isle of Man. Father Thomas Chambers - mother Elizabeth.

This is POSSIBLY your Ann -- as she named her eldest daughter - Elizabeth, after her mother.

It does look as though she is the one born Isle of Man.
You now need to see if you can find a Thomas Davies with a father Edward born about 1823 ish -- in the Liverpool or Wallasey areas.

Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I think that is the one I was thinking of! Sorry about that.

Initially I thought it may be the mother's maiden name -- but clearly not. It might be a grandmother's maiden name though, as you go further back.

Thomas Chambers + Elizabeth Deverick m Kk German (Peel) 26 Aug 1811 - 5 children noteed John, James, Ann, Thomas + Leonora - 1st 2 in German, 2 in Kk Patrick - final child in Kk German - Elizth's name varies from Devericks, defford,devereux and dumbrigs in the bapts! no obvious bapt for her on Island - no burials for any on Island and can't find in 1841 Manx census
however a Cath Chambers married a John Gell in Kk Patrick in 1811 and had children - she is buried age 58 in 1842 in Patrick

Chambers is a very rare name on IoM (not Manx)

Look at my website www.manxnotebook.com for maps etc - St Johns tho in Kk German is just a stones throw from Kk Patrick - the early years of the 19th Century saw the start of the Manx Lead mining industry - by the 1860's Foxdale abt 3 miles down road from St Johns was at the heart of a large mining industry
