Thank you Groom - not the couple I am looking for who are a John & Bridget Lehehan who were witnesses at a wedding in Kensington in 1873 - am trying to establish a possible connection to the bride/groom.

Why does there have to be a connection?
Witnesses can be anybody! Dragged in off the street if neccesary ;D
I realise there may be no connection to the couple getting married but I thought I would explore & see if there was one

Check a Parish Register, and look for witness names that recur on a frequent basis!
Think you'll find it happens more times than you think ;D

Sometimes it was a churchwarden or parish clerk.

And, a modern twist:

I agree, KG, not as rare as you think. Almost every page of parish records I've looked at has the same person appearing as a witness more than once. So, whilst not literally dragged in off the street, not someone who was known to the bride and groom.
