Ernsborough House, Exeter
« on: Thursday 21 July 16 20:23 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me find a picture of Ernsborough House, Colleton Crescent, Exeter.  My Great Grandmother died here and I have found it was a Home for Incurables.  I would like to have a picture of how is was then or how it looks now.  I have tried Mr Google but it appears it is no longer a nursing home but without any local knowledge I'm stuck.

Many thanks

Hi
Old Maps shows Ernsborough House  in 1932, but by 1949 it was called Colleton Lodge.

Thank you so much, StintonLomas.  I have emailed the Devon Heritage Centre and hope to find out more about my Gt Grandmother.

Thank you also for the StreeView photo.

I think it is still there overlooking Bull Meadow Park. When it closed the folk there were transferred to Ernsborough Ward at the old city hospital (Heavitree ). The ward was in the old part of the hospital .

Did you ever have any luck with Ernsborough House? It's flats now and they have their own tenants association.

I received a reply from Devon Heritage Centre but they said there were no records of patients in the records they had.  I also checked the newspapers and found some patients listed who had died there but not my Gt Grandmother, unfortunately.

The link StintonLomas gave me with suit my purpose so thank you for that.  Maybe something else will turn up at a later date.  Here's (always) hoping.
