I am considering downloading Windows 10 and would appreciate hearing the views of others on its worth.

As I mentioned on another thread about W10, my son upgraded all of our pc's to W10. I was a bit aprehensive at first, don't like change, but I didn't have a choice, he's in IT so I got an upgrade.

I think I have the basic one for home on my pc, but he has the Pro one on his.  I love it.  I find it easier to use, (specially for me who is a pc idiot)  he disabled the apps that I don't need and have only had two updates since he installed it.  ;)

I hate Windows 10 but support for Windows 7 pro that I use will end soon.

You might have no choice but to upgrade .....

Questions to ask yourself:
How old is your pc ?
Are you likely to need a new one in the next couple of years ?
Will it be worth spending £89 on the upgrade ?
If the answer is yes to Q. 2 then stick with W7 & buy a new pc with W10 already installed.

I agree, it does look as though my choices may be limited.

To answer one of Jim's questions, my son is currently building me a new pc. Guess I'll have to chivvy him to get it finished before the 29th.

Thanks to all for your comments.

I hate Windows 10 but support for Windows 7 pro that I use will end soon.

Extended support, ie. Security updates, doesn't end until 14 January 2020.  Mainstream support ended last year. Most Win7 PCs will probably need replacing by 2020 anyway because of hardware failure or they are just too slow.  While there could be compatability issues with new software programs or some websites going forward, as there have been with WinXP, if you don't want to upgrade now its not that essential.

My pc isn't the newest one but it runs W10 fine, but I do get newer bits and pieces every now and then put into it courtesy of son...It does seem to be a bit faster though since the install but that may just be my imagination.... ::) ;D ;D

It has just occurred to me that since I shall have a new pc in the near future I might as well download W10 onto this one and see what I think of it when it's up and running.

I downloaded Windows10 soon after it came out and was happy with it at first, then after updates things started to go missing. I lost the start up menu and found that was a common problem. It took about a week before I found how to get it back, apparently it wasn't compatible with Dropbox and as that updated it had affected Windows10. Lots of other things started to annoy me, especially the long updates, so in the end I gave up and decided to treat myself to an Apple MacBook. That was the best decision I've made, it is so quick and easy.
