The Price family
« on: Sunday 24 July 16 10:50 BST (UK) »
Bartholomew Price and his wife Charlotte had 9 children.  Two of the sons were called Bartholomew Price born 1831 (c) Richard Bartholomew Price born 1844 (c).  Was this normal to name children the same, were they fond of the name Bartholomew, should mention Bartholomew b 1831 lived until after 1901.

So one was Bartholomew and the other Richard?

Not unusual at all. In fact my step father did that in the 40's.

One son named the same as dad and the next one a different first name but dad's name as his middle.

Perfectly normal, they weren't exactly the same as one was called Richard albeit with Barth as a middle name!

My 3x great grand uncle, Amos Knighton, did this twice.

Ernest John Knighton
John Henry Knighton

and

George Amos Knighton
Amos Edward Knighton

He had nine brothers whose names he could have used, not sure why he felt the need to repeat those two names.
Knighton in Huntingdonshire and Northamptonshire
Tweedie in Lanarkshire and Co. Down
Rodgers in Durham and Co. Monaghan
McMillan in Lanarkshire and Argyllshire
