Looking for info on Andrew MURRAY in military please.
« on: Monday 25 July 16 13:05 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am looking for any information on an Andrew MURRAY who according to his marriage record in 1820 to Ann Charles, served as a Private in the 31st Regiment of Foot. Thanks.

I forgot to add that he died in 1848 in Habergham Eaves, Lancashire.

From the 1841 census he was not born in the county so you have a real puzzle.
His military records would be the best source of information.
Local historians often have information on the military or the National Archives .
Findmypast has two Andrew Murrays one with records 1821-1829 the other from 1815-1827, I no longer have a subscription so I cannot check if either is yours.

This is him I think:  http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C8743608

The record shows his birthplace as the parish of Meelan in or near the town of Ferhan or Ferban (possibly Ferbane?), Kings County ( now Co Offaly), circa 1792.
