Where is Eliza Frooms after the 1891 census?
« on: Monday 25 July 16 15:04 BST (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters,

Can anyone find Eliza Frooms who was living in Hereford in the 1891 census? In that census she is living at 55 Portland St, Hereford, aged 19 and a domestic servant in the Bullar household. She was born in 1872 in Shoreditch/Hoxton but baptised in 1879 in All Saints, Walworth, Southwark, London, the daughter of Walter Francis Frooms and Amelia (Davis).

In the 1881 census she is living with her family in Southwark. Her father, Walter, died in 1883 and her mother died in Hereford RD in 1889.

I have traced her 2 sisters (one of whom was my gt grandmother) but Eliza eludes me after the 1891 census. There are family connections with Hereford, Breinton and surrounding areas as her mother (plus her family) originated from there. Can anyone help find Eliza after 1891 please?

Jo

There is this one on Familysearch,
Elizabeth froomes, born Bromley by bow, 1872 employee in the Bellis household Ross rural district.

I searched Eliza f* in Wales 1900-1902

Mike

Edit, should have said its in the 1901 census.

I agree with this

Elizabeth Froomes serv s 29 Cook (Domestic) London, Bromley by Bow

and then the marriage given above seems to be the correct one :-) judging by the 1911 census

I think that Eliza's age may become downwardly adjusted (i.e. she loses some years!) so that by the time of the 1939 register I think that her birth year perhaps given as 1876.  (West Dean R.D., Gloucestershire judging by the free index)

Hello Rootschatters,

Many thanks for your efforts and congratulations on succeeding where I failed. The name of Frooms causes no end of problems with all the variants of this.

This is her for certain and I can pursue this line which is one of my favourites. I found her in the 1911 census, she shows she is married but not living with James Whitehouse. She is a Housekeeper and her 2 children are with her. This will give me something else to look at now.

Many thanks one again. A special thank you to giggsycat for the extracts from the PRs.

Jo.
