Hello, you emailed re Thomas Hugh Gwilt. We do not have a Thomas Hugh but there is a Thomas Charles Gwilt bn 17 April 1897 in Taunton, Somerset, England. His parents were Charles Gwilt bn 1868 and Emma Blakemore bn 25 Jan 1870 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. Emma's father was my husbands G Grandfather. I have quite a lot of information on the Blakemore family but had to ask Roots Chat for help when Charles, Emma and family went to Canada (my family history lookup  subscription only allows in UK) I have a death certificate for Charles Gwilt for 13th April 1953 (he had committed suicide) If these are members of your family I would be happy to share whatever info I have and I would be interested to know details of the family in Canada.

I will search to see if/how Thomas Charles Gwilt and Thomas Hugh Gwilt are related.  There is too much of a coincidence that they both ended up in the same area in Canada.

There is also a story that Thomas Hugh came to Canada to start his life, as there was already a relative in Canada for him to meet up with.....I wonder :)

I wanted to attach a file of Thomas Charles Gwilt's WWI Canadian Military document, but the file is too large.

Hmm.  Very good question.  I've researched some of my source documents and cannot seem to find where I discovered his "middle" name.  I have to sign off for a bit, but this is important.  I will get back to it until I find that I either made a mistake and copied someone else's tree, or I'll find the source document and share it.  Thanks for pointing it out.

I am fascinated that someone else as well as me knows that Thomas was going to B Columbia and already family there. I have tried to connect the two families who lived under 20 miles apart but cannot do it .Do you know you have a book on your side or the family called James and Elizabeth Gwilt.  It was printed in America

I had ordered the birth certificate from England for my great-grandfather, Thomas Gwilt, details:

BIRTH 22 SEP 1881 • Caynham, Shropshire, England
DEATH 8 APRIL 1968 • Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada

There was a question on whether or not he had a middle name of "Hugh".  He does not.  His birth certificate does not have a middle name nor a middle initial.

Please note:  There are many people on Ancestry.com who have this specific Thomas and all his details, but have placed the middle name "Hugh".

There is a Thomas H. Gwilt, who married in Quarter 3 in 1911 in Shropshire.  This Thomas was born in 1886 in Shropshire as well.

I believe that the confusion is here, as these two "Thomases"  each have a father named "Thomas Gwilt".  My great-grandfather married "Mabel Webster" in Canada whereas Thomas H. Gwilt a "Sarah" in England.

I believe that this solves the Thomas Gwilt who went to Canada and started a logging company, and the illusive "Thomas Hugh Gwilt" who remained in England.

Too many THOMASES!  :)
