Marriage lookup request - Skeet-Ablitt - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 26 July 16 01:42 BST (UK) »
I have the following information, but cannot locate the marriage, which took place in Flegg RD (FreeBMD):
Lucy Morris Skeet to George Ablitt, 1st August 1867
I have checked Marsham & Marham - but the marriage is not listed either parish register (via FindmyPast)

From Bury & Norwich Post Tues 6 Aug 1867 (via FindMyPast)
On 1st inst at Martham, Mr George Ablitt, farmer, Grundisburgh, to Lucy Morris, eldest daughter of the late Mr James Bane of the former place.

Any help much appreciated - thanks in advance

What additional information are you looking for?

The marriage certificate will show where the wedding took place - perhaps at the registry office?

There will be record of the names and occupations of the fathers of bride and groom and possibly the names of the witnesses could be informative. Even if they married in church, I am not sure the parish register would contain anything much more.

I want to verify that both bride & groom were widow/widower.
I'm puzzled that I can't locate the place where the marriage took place - its possible that the couple were married at a Suffolk (Flegg) church whose registers have not yet been transcribed.
I'm not sure if register offices existed in 1849;  the family tended to be strongly non-conformist, so are likely to have wanted a traditional marriage ceremony.
This is the probable remarriage of the second wife of one of my ancestors, so the information is mainly for verification purposes.
Thank you for your interest.

Hi only seeing the index to the marriage but this will maybe help probate record for Lucy's husband Robert Skeet died 16 February 1859 Suffolk ...Mentions his widow Lucy Morris Skeet.. Lucy is in the 1861 census age 35 widow with her brother James Bane piece 1036 folio 23

This also looks like the death for George's first wife Sarah Ann Ablitt 1864 Woodbridge Suffolk
So they were both widow/widower
