Felt I must share this great  news with you all which has been announced in the press today and will be of extreme interest to anyone seeking images of Jersey bygone days.
OPAC The Online Public Access Catalogue will be uploading around 30,000 images onto their site next Tuesday spanning about 200 years of island history and  some 10,000 of these will be portraits of named subjects. There will also be an online ordering service.

So check out

Whilst we are the subject of Jersey - does anyone at all know how I could find a record of a birth in Jersey in around 1804?
I do not, at this stage, think that my family were from Jersey, just "passing through" or working there.

Any guidelines on researching births in Jersey would be a great help.
Thanks
Claudia

Hi Claudia!

It's the summer and everybody in Jersey is enjoying the holiday atmosphere  :D have you tried posting your request? here's the 1841 census on line - do you know approx. time they would have been there? do your know what kind of work they did? Jersey has wonderful records at their archives but somebody has to go there and you need some pretty firm info to go with - it's a long laboureous process! so - post everything you know and with a bit of luck somebody may be able to help you!!

Hello again Annie,

Am I right in thinking you got onto the site via my link and found ?

Societe Jersiase Photographic Collection. with a search critea

Image Ref
Photographer
Names
Places
Subject
Free Search

I just tried it out by entering  "Fort Regent"  in places and up came a load of photos to choose from.

Try  searching  via your own search engine eg Google  rather then using my link and type in the web address  from scratch...... maybe its something to do with cookies. I'm not computer wiz but thats all I can think of right now.

Hope it works !!!

And if successful you can always add it to  favourites.

Good Luck

Scatty
