Payton of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
« on: Wednesday 27 July 16 22:40 BST (UK) »
Would there be anyone who is researching the Payton Family of Cheltenham ?
I am looking for information on Henry Payton, who married Jane Jones at Cheltenham in 1852.
They had the following children:- Frederick C. 1854; Alice J. ????; George 1857; Francis. 1859;
Ernest Bartra. ????; Edward Leonard. ????; Kate. 1864.
The above Henry's father was Thomas Payton, who married Elizabeth Ann BARTRAM on 20th June 1825, Tilehurst, Reading. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Cider,

I have an interest in a Cheltenham Payton Family with Frank Payton head of family born c 1859,could this be your Francis 1859 ?
I have not looked into his parentage as my main interest is in Frank's wife Minnie Kear.
Please reply or p m me if you think this may be related to your enquiry.

Hi Scatty,

I think that your Frank and my Francis are one of the same, and the dob seems to tie in also :-)

Francis's full family in 1861 was as follows :-
Henry          Payton. Head, Married, 33, Tailor.          (b) London
Jane            Payton. Wife,  Married, 31, Dressmaker. (b) Cheltenham.
Frederick C. Payton. Son,   Single,     7, Scholar.        (b) Cheltenham.
Alice        J. Payton. Dau,   Single,     6, Scholar.        (b) Cheltenham.
George        Payton. Son,   Single,     4, Scholar.        (b) Cheltenham.
Francis    H. Payton. Son,   Single,     2, Scholar.        (b) Cheltenham.
Ernest     B. Payton. Son,   Single,     1, ---------.       (b) Cheltenham.

By 1871 the family had grown a little more :-
Edward Payton. Son, Single, 9,      Scholar. (b) Cheltenham.
Kate     Payton. Dau, Single, 7,      Scholar. (b) Cheltenham.
Agnes   Payton. Dau, Single, 5,      Scholar. (b) Cheltenham.
Joseph  Payton. Son, Single, 3,      Scholar. (b) Cheltenham.
Amelia  Payton. Dau, Single, 9ths, ---------. (b) Cheltenham.

And 1881 the family had grown a little more :-
Robert Payton. Son, Single, 3, Scholar. (b) Cheltenham.
