Payton Family of Berkshire
« on: Wednesday 27 July 16 22:55 BST (UK) »
I would like to hear from anyone who has Payton Ancestors from Berkshire Area.
I have a Thomas Payton, born: 1742, Abingdon, Berkshire.
This Thomas PAYTON married Theodora WILLIAMS in 1769, at possibly Abingdon.
I also have another Thomas Payton from Sutton Courtney, but no birthdate :-(
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cider,

Perhaps you could add a time-frame for these ancestors - it would help  ;)

I notice that you are also looking in other parts of the country.  Presumably they are all related?

No, not yet, I did not know there was one, must investigate further :-) thank you

Yes they appear to started out in Abingdon, then Reading, then some went to different parts of London. And my ancestors headed to Cheltenham. Think it was a case of following their occupation as and where :-)

Hi Cider,

I also have another Thomas Payton from Sutton Courtney, but no birthdate

In the absence of any years for Thomas, I looked in the Sutton Courtenay transcripts and the only one I could see was bapt. 1865. Presumably too late for your enquiry.

The Thomas Payton did marry Theodora Williams in Abingdon St.Helens 14-3-1769.

There is also a bapt. for Thomas Payton 1-8-1742 s/o John & Sarah, Labr. - possibly the one who married Theodora.

Info from the transcripts issued by the OxfordshireFHS.

Hello Alan,

I have since been informed that I must be talking about Thomas Joseph PAYTON who was born in
Sutton Courtney, Berkshire, in 1805.
He married Elizabeth WIBLEN at St. Ebbs, Oxford, on 11th October, 1829.
He died in 1846 at Sutton Courtney, Berkshire.
And I have since found out that Thomas Joseph father and mother were Thomas PAYTON (1771)and Rachel CARPENTER who married November 15, 1795 at St. Michael, in Oxford.

Are the Oxfordshire Transcripts freely on line, or do you have to pay to read them ?

Thank you for your help.
John

Hi Cider,

The transcripts are issued by the OFHS and can be ordered here;
http://www.ofhs.org.uk/CDsales.html

Scroll to the bottom.

I don't think they are freely available on line although there may be some on FamilySearch here;
