Adam Walker was born in 1828 in Derbyshire, his father was John Walker, and his mother was called Ruth.  He married Ellen Saunders, daughter of Samuel Saunders, on July 3rd 1848 in Belper, Derbyshire.

The 1841 census shows John and Ruth age 45, with Adam 12, William 15 and Mary 15, in Duffield, Belper.

The 1851 census shows Adam Walker age 22 as a coal miner with wife Ellen 23 and daughter Sarah age 1, living in Belper, Derbyshire.

My question is, what is the maiden name of Adam Walker's mother Ruth?  I made a guess, which would take my ancestry into Derbyshire heartland going back to the early 1600's and back to the 1300's, but Ruth is the link which I need to be sure of.

That is the one I found, and I ran with it, taking me back many generations of the Eyres in Derbyshire.  I think I am probably wrong.

I think the marriage in Duffield in 1817 to Ruth Waterfall is more likely, as looking at the map, the family always lived near Belper, Heage and Duffield, whereas Glossop is on the other side of the Peak District and almost in Manchester, which in the early 1800's would have been a very long way away.

Also the name Waterfall rings bells, as though I have come across it before without realising or remembering.

It was only a transcription not the actual register.

There are numerous baptisms in Belper for John and Ruth Walker from c1819 including Adams - have you got those ?

No, I haven't got any information except the 1841 census, where Adam is 12 and he has two siblings age 15, William and Mary.  The parents are both 45.  Presumably the older children have left home by then.
