"Hide" Farm - Steeple Dorset
« on: Saturday 30 July 16 08:55 BST (UK) »
Hello, 1841 Steeple census records Thomas COOPER and family at "Hide". I have read information about "Hide" at http://www.opcdorset.org/SteepleFiles/SteepleHutchins.htm

Looking on google maps I see a small cottage to the east of Blackmanston Farm. Is this the cottage for "Hide"? is there a name for the farm occupying "Hide"? regards Jason

Looks like you might be right - It is labeled as Hyde Cottage on a map http://maps.nls.uk/view/106012323#zoom=3&lat=5610&lon=13789&layers=BT

Hi

In the Tithe appointment map for Steeple in 1844 ( pretty much like the one on NLS) a Thomas Cooper looks to be elsewhere in Steeple, no. 103 on the map I can see.

A William Coffin is at Hyde ( no.63)

Can let you have a copy if you like, or it can be viewed on Anc*.

Apologies for leaping on this thread instead of starting my own ... but I just wondered who lived at that property around about 1700-1720 ..... if that's available.

Cheers.

I think I know, by guessing .... but I could be wrong.
