Now I'm looking for Perkin without the "s", they're coming out of the woodwork. Edith and David Perkin and family in 1911 just over the border in Wales with little Edith Annie. The number of years married matches with the marriage in 1880, 9 children total, none died before 1911 and three younger ones (Sarah Jane, Mercy and David) with them.

But where's the Bootle connection?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Found David and Edith in 1891, they have children Richard, Mary A, Edith and Alfred - no Annie, but Mary A would be right age.

That's 7 of 9 children accounted for. Haven't found them yet in 1901.

added
got them in 1901 now - was searching for Edith and David together - but he's not at home on census night - night shift in the mine maybe

Extra children Emma 1892 and Margaret 1894.
Daughter b 1883 still listed as Mary A - she must be Annie and she changed her name - she called her daughter Edith Annie - so she liked the name Annie.

Margaret would be only 18 in 1912 - is this too young to be a marriage witness?

It certainly does look as if Annie Eltham began life as Mary A (Mary Ann?)!

I think 18 was old enough to be a witnesss back then.Probably much the same as today as I understand, the witness' must be over 16 and "must understand the language of the ceremony and have the mental capacity to understand the nature of the ceremony"

I wonder if Mary Ann PERKIN(S) married a BROWN.......

Cheers

There's a Mary Annie also indexed as Mary Annice Perkins married in Pontypridd district to a George Edward Brown - seems a long way from Shropshire or Bootle.
