History of National Eisteddfod
« on: Monday 01 August 16 23:23 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have recently been passed a winners 'black chair' awarded to my great grandfather at a Welsh National Eisteddfod. It has no markings - does anyone know of anyway to find out what year he won this and for what? We presume singing but we are not sure. Thx in advance for any guidance!

Does he have a name, age, and area of birth, or area to research 🤔

All I am reading it appears to be awarded to the best bard, cannot see anything for singing.

in my research it seems to be linked to poetry... But singing is what we think in the family. Maybe a mystery that won't be solved. Thx for your time.

"A second prize of a guinea was given by Mr Jarret Roberts (Carnarvon) to William Ellis, Llangefni, another competitor" - Best welsh song written for a baritone 2nd out of 5 compostions? Perhaps he entered this more than once? 17th September 1884

Maybe this is not him, he would have been 10 years old?
