1820s...Morgan Edwards, Sarah Edwards and Philip Edward
« on: Tuesday 02 August 16 19:10 BST (UK) »
Hello:

I'm trying to locate the family of Edwards, prior to their immigration to America. Earliest record I have of the family is the 1860 US census, showing Father Edward, Wife Sarah (nee Evans) and son Philip. Philip is aged 6 so assuming 1854 as birth year. I do not where in Wales the family was from but on the census both Edward and Sarah give England as their place of origin. We believe that they are actually from Wales and hence my posting. working from the census Edward would be born approximately 1823.
Any help is appreciated.

Is the father's name Edward or Morgan?
If Morgan, the only marriage I can see that fits is in Pontypool District 1852(FreeBMD)  and a Philip registered in that district in June 1855 Qtr.

Regards
Roger

Hi if the marriage was Morgan Edwards to Sarah Evans then it was 19th December 1852 Holy Trinity Abergavenny
Grooms Father Morgan occ Butcher
Brides Father Thomas occ Carpenter
Witnesses Isaac & Elizabeth Wilks

there's been a bit of mis-indexing on FindMyPast I think. The marriage was in Goytrey not Abergavenny and appears on FreeReg, both Morgan & Sarah living in Goytrey.

Can't see a baptism for Philip in that parish
