Does this make sense.

Yes that makes sense - Margaret Lawman would be her forenames

Don't forget Allan Young's baptism was 13 Nov 1825 not his birth date

Has anyone actually seen the baptism register, or is this an assumption from the IGI content?

The IGI batch has 88 baptisms for 1834.  Not one of those 88 entries names a mother but no father although there must have been births to single women.  Several of them (as in the LAWMAN case) have the child's second recorded name being the same as the mother's surname.

Without sight of the baptism register - i.e. just relying on what is given in the IGI - it's certainly not possible to determine whether the child was illegitimate or not.  I think it more likely that the parents weren't married.

I thought that too Geoff E - can't find a marriage for William Lennox and Ann Lawman
A tree gives the date as the year after Margaret was born but there's no source given - the same tree also has Margaret & Allan's marriage as 1st qtr 1853 -which I don't think is correct
