Baptism of Robert Irish [various] abt 1675 Sussex father Robert Irish
« on: Wednesday 03 August 16 12:47 BST (UK) »
Robert Irish was said to be born/baptised about 1675 in Sussex a son of Robert Irish and Joan Duke. Joan & Robert sr were married in 1646 in Slindon.  Robert was born in Hartling & died in Eartham.

I have been unable to locate a baptism and hope someone will have more success than I :(

Westy,

Can I check your dates, please?  It is unlikely that Robert snr & Joan had a son baptised after 30 years of marriage.  If Joan was 20-25 when she married in 1646, I think it highly unlikely that she would have a child  in 1675  :-\

I have found the baptism of a daughter (Katherine) to the couple in 1662 at Eartham.

Hello Little Nell,

I agree with you and thing it has to be at the most within 20 years of marriage as a viable range of births.  ;D

So in hindsight it now seems to me a birth between 1646 - 1666 at the latest.

1640s-50s can be difficult for parish registers - there is the possibility that they were poorly kept during the Commonwealth period, resulting in 'black holes' with few or no entries.  I have found this in Sussex  before but I'm not familiar with these particular registers.  But something to bear in mind.  :(
