Burkill New Malton
« on: Thursday 04 August 16 07:15 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I am looking at a Burkill family for someone and have checked census records back to 1851 which has William down as being born in Adlingfleet in 1815. The only birth record I can find is in New Malton in 1816. A bit of a distance apart so have I missed something? Williams son on the 1861 census, George William makes it the correct family at this stage. Thanks, Phil

In the first place, there are no birth records before Civil Registration, which began in 1837 ;D
So, you are looking for a baptism/christening.

There is this, from FamilySearch:
Christening 13th April 1815  at Adlingfleet, Yorkshire
William Burkill, son of Thomas & Mary Burkill

The "other" William Burkill was christened at St Leonard, New Malton on 13th July 1816.
Son of John & Mary Burkill.
