Hendersons in Belturbet area, Cavan
« on: Thursday 04 August 16 12:14 BST (UK) »
I have a Charlotte Henderson born c. 1830/31, probably in the Annagh/Belturbet area who emigrated to Canada in 1842. Married in 1844 to a Robert Campbell who was also born in Belturbet area c. 1822 and came to Canada c. 1823 with his parents John  Campbell/Mary Netterfield. Maybe she was brought over as a "bride" but then she seems to have been only 14 or 15 when married. (??) No trace of her parents in Canada. Anyone doing Henderson genealogy in Cavan who might have a Charlotte in their database?

Thank you, myluck!

This is a good possibility. I have Charlotte's birth date as March 27, 1831 (Source: 1901 Census of Canada) so a baptism date of April 13 is reasonable. If 1831 is the correct DOB, then she was only 13 when married on March 4, 1844 which seems impossible. If your information is correct, then she was 23 days short of her 18th birthday when married. That's more likely.
Charlotte may have had a brother named David Henderson who also came to Canada.

There is a sister Harriott baptised to the same couple on Dec 11 1825

I don't see an obvious other sibling but not all records are online

In the 1861 and 1871 Canadian census listings there is a Fanny Henderson living with the Campbell family. She is 21/22 years older than Charlotte. Maybe this is her Mother- Frances? (Frances= Fanny??)

And one of Robert and Charlotte's daughters was named Harriet!  Weird.

I think the key to this is that I have been searching in Cavan and didn't realize that a "neighbour" could have been living in Monaghan/Fermanagh, etc. only a few km. away. A good lesson.

Would you equate "Fanny" to "Frances"?
