Walter Baker
« on: Thursday 04 August 16 20:13 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I'm searching for the last resting place of Walter Baker. Walter was born in Lancashire, England, in 1895. I believe he emigrated to Canada with his brother William Thomas in 1912. He married and settled in Vista and had a family there.
                     Many Thanks

Hello Lilybell,
I believe that Vista is in Manitoba, near to Shoal Lake.

Hi,

I think it is Manitoba.

Here are the brothers in Shoal Lake in 1916, William age 24, Walter age 20.

Walter's son Richard John (Dickie) Baker of Vista died June 13 2011.  His obituary is in the Shoal Lake Crossroads paper.  He was buried in the Argyle Cemetery.  Perhaps you can contact that cemetery to see if Walter is also buried there.

You have a thread on William Thomas Baker..  In regards to that thread, I posted information about an obit for Walter's wife.  She is buried in Argyle Cemetery.  I also found Walter's son Richard's obit for that thread.

Have you contacted the cemetery?  Other members of his family are there.

Nice one RK :) Let's hope Wayne comes back and replies to this post as he seems to have
forgotten to reply to the other one.

There is a book "Vista Tales" page 228, with the following,

WALTER BAKER (06 May 1895 - 18 January 1973)
Walter Baker passed away in Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg on Thursday, January 18, 1973.
Mr. Baker was 77 years of age.
Born in England on May 6, 1895, he came to Canada in 1913, and worked for different farmers.
He joined the Canadian Army and after the war married May Margaret Hughes in England. They
returned to Canada and farmed in the Vista district. In 1950 he left the farm and purchased the
store in town.
He was predeceased by his wife in May, 1948 and his daughter, Catharine Ham in April, 1958.
Left to mourn his loss are: R* of St. Catharines ON, A* of Toronto ON, D* of Bezanson AB and Dick of Vista. There are 24 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; 1 brother and 3 sisters still living in England.
Mr. Baker was a member of the Rossburn Branch of the Canadian Legion. He took great pride in
his flower gardens, and in his younger years was an active football player.
Funeral services were held in Rossburn United Church on Monday, Jan. 22, 1973 at 2:00 p.m.
Rev. B* officiated at the service. Interment followed in the Argyle Cemetery. Members
of the Rossburn Branch Canadian Legion attended the body and Legion rites were held in the
church.

*I have removed the names in case they are still living.

If you scroll further on there is mention of son Dick and the store.

Cheers,
