McDonald/Barrett origins

I am seeking information about my ancestors: John McDonald born about 1859 and his (first) wife Ellen Barrett (1856 - 1889) who I believe may be from this region, possibly Annagh. They married about 1882 and had two children Mary (Elizabeth), b 1884 and Bernard b. 1886. They left Ireland about 1888 and Ellen died soon after settling in New York city. John's second wife was Mary Moore (1864 - 1941) from nearby Clones, Monaghan.

When did John die? Have you checked on Family Search to see if his parent's names are given on the death record?

Doesn't really help,but at least it narrows the field a little.

I do believe that this is Ellen and there is an Ellen/Helen Barrett born to Patrick and Mary Barrett in Waterlane in Jun 1856.  The death records in New York are confusing and contradictory and may indicate that informants were guessing.  John McDonald died in New York in Apr 1910, about a week after the 1910 census.  His parents were listed as James McDonald and Mary Murphy.   
Bernard, the son of John McDonald  and Ellen Barrett died of TB in New York in 1908 and his death certificate lists his parents as John and Ellen Marratt.
To confound it all, I've never located a marriage record for the second marriage (McDonald - Mary Moore) in either Ireland or New York.  Ellen died in 1889 and by 1894 John had (presumably) married Mary Moore as they had a son John McDonald in that year.
This is my most frustrating brickwall.

I'm guessing you don't have this as you wrote 'about 1882'.
This looks like Ellen and John's marriage, it would give you their father's names and where the couple were living at the time of the marriage, which hopefully will be their home address.

I don't see a Mary McDonald born 1884 but there is one in 1883

Hi,

I've got McDonald DNA, (at grandfather generation level in centi Morgans), and a grandfather named William Bernard Upton born 1888. in NYC. His mother's name was Mary Barrett.

Perhaps William was a last baby of Ellen and was adopted by the in law family of Uptons???

Any relation to John McDonald (1859) and Ellen (Barrett) McDonald, (1856-1889)??
