Smith and Eyre families
« on: Friday 05 August 16 16:03 BST (UK) »
Hi Am I the only perso researching the Smith and Eyre families of Brotherton?  I know that a Timothy Smith born 1763 in Brotherton married Mary Ere born 1768 at St. Edward's Church Brotherton in 1786 and that they had a large family of 12 children.  The ony one of those childrn that I have been able to follow is Eliza, the youngest, who was born in 1809,  Eliza was my gt. gt. grandmother and she married a Thomas Jones at St. Mary, Bishophill, York on 26th May 1839, you might by now have seen my problem! a Smith and a Jones, try as I might I cannot find out anything on Thomas Jones other than he was born circa 1814 and died in 1848 leaving Eliza with two sons, a third having died at birth in 1845.  In the 1851 census Eliza is described as a schoolmistress living at 96 Low Street Brotherton.  Now I have been able to trace her younger son John Smith Jones (mygt. grandfather) but know nothing of her elder son Charles other than he was born in 1841 and I believe became a miner in Durham any help would be appreciated.  Joan

Brilliant, thank you so much I am hoping to go "up North' later this year and I am going to see if I can find the addresses both in Yorkshire and Northumberland.  Once again thank you, regards Joan
