« on: Saturday 06 August 16 12:17 BST (UK) »
Can anyone possibly assist regarding a marriage between Joseph Hobson & Elizabeth Hives 24 November 1796 Sheffield Cathedral. In particular the father/parents of either party, or any witnessess.

Both parties are single.   Marriage was by Licence - Joseph is 25 and Elizabeth of the parish of Ecclesfield is 21.  Both signed the register.  George ? and Ruth Spooner were the witnesses.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Difficult to read, but witness George could possibly be George Mellor.

Looks like George MELLOR married Ann* HIVES Aug 18 1793 Sheffield St Mary Ecclesfield.

Witnesses were Elizabeth HIVES and John HIVES.

That's interesting, especially the Elizabeth Hives which does link with the marriage to Joseph Hobson as above. Am I right in thinking Elizabeth, Ann & John Hives were siblings?

Can I follow this up with some help regarding a marriage between a Mary Hives & Hugh Ibbotson around about the same period.

Thanks for the help.

 ??? ???
Do you mean the Ibbotson/Hives marriage in 1846? I don't see an earlier one, sorry.

I have a feeling that Elizabeth and Ann HIVES were sisters and John HIVES was their father. (could be wrong, though ::) ).

I think that would have been the right marriage. The 1851 shows Hugh Ibbotson born 1822, Mary Ibbotson born 1820 with a father in law William Hives born 1780 Ecclesfield. Just wondering if William is another Hives sibling?
