Thomas S Ray Winchester
« on: Wednesday 10 August 16 01:41 BST (UK) »
Looking for Thomas S Ray;
Thomas S Ray married Hannah Williams 1828 Bristol, Gloucester
Hannah died 1847 Surrey

Thomas then married Hannah Butler 1849 Surrey
Hannah died 1855 Surrey

Thomas then married Elizabeth Purton  1858 Surrey.

Thomas was born in Winchester, Hampshire. I have the 41,51,61,71 Census for him. I believe his parents were Thomas Ray and Susanna (IGI) If i have the right man he was baptised 17 July 1808 St Thomas Winchester.
I would like to find more about his parent's if possible.
Any help would be gratefully received.
His daughter Catherine married into my Biddiss family

Many thanks

Several family trees have Thomas as Thomas Stephen Ray , but the Hampshire Baptism Index has transcribed the entry as Thomas Stevens Ray with the remaining details matching what you already have. I wondered whether this marriage might be relevant :

Thomas Rey and Susanna Stephens 25 Jun 1804 St James , Bristol.

There are no siblings listed on the Baptism Index and I couldn't see a marriage in Hampshire for the parents.

Hi Carol
Do you have one of his marriage certificates that records the occupation of his father?
Winchester was a garrison town and the barracks were located in St Thomas parish.

On both the 1849 and 1858 marriages Thomas Ray's father is Thomas Ray , currier. The 1858 record says deceased , 1849 doesn't .

Whilst at HRO yesterday, I took a look at m/f copy of the original Winchester St Thomas register but there was nothing further to add other than a final 'h' to his mother's Christian name.
