Thanks for the info and links.

I shall have to set aside a bit more time to revise my itinerary to make sure I can see as much as possible during my trip.

On a lighter note, the last time I was in the Aberdeenshire area, (during my basic training at Brig-o-Don) I was plagued by horseflies and rather large ones at that, what's the prognosis for the horsefly population these days?

T&R
GJS
Lipp, Troup & Proctor - Aberdeenshire and Banff, all dates
Fraser, Hardie, Mackie & Watt - Banff, Moray & Nairn all dates
Smith - Inverness & Moray, 1900s onward

Archiestown is a village in the parish of Knockando. The parish kirk is a couple of miles further west, in the hamlet of Knockando. Do not confuse Knockando with Knockandhu, which is between Tomintoul and Dufftown. See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/MOR/Knockando
Also http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ2344 and http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ1941

Aberlour is a parish on the opposite side of the River Spey from Knockando. The village in the parish of Aberlour is officially named Charlestown of Aberlour but no-one actually calls it that. See http://www.abdnet.co.uk/genuki/BAN/Aberlour/index.html
Also http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ2642 and http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ2743

Rothes is a parish, including a town of the same name, next to Knockando and downriver from Aberlour. See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/MOR/Rothes
Also http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ2749

Grange is a rural parish north and east of the town and parish of Keith. See http://www.abdnet.co.uk/genuki/BAN/Grange/index.html
Also http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ4851

Cawdor is a parish including a village, with a castle, in Nairnshire, some 20 miles or so west. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/NAI/Cawdor
Also http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NH8449

Lumsden is the largest village in the parish of Auchindoir and Kearn, south of Huntly. See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/ABD/Auchindoir/index.html
Also http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ4721

Forres is a parish including a town of the same name, and Elgin is a parish including a town of the same name. Both are large enough to be shown on most road maps. See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/MOR/Forres and http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/MOR/Elgin

New Machar is a parish including a village a few miles north-west of Aberdeen. See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/ABD/Newmachar/index.html
Also http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ8819

Auchindoun is not the same as Auchindoir. It is a separate place in the parish of Mortlach, which is south of Rothes and Aberlour and includes the town of Dufftown. http://www.abdnet.co.uk/genuki/BAN/Mortlach/index.html
Also http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ3540 and http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ3437

If there are any other places, including individual farms, that you are trying to find, I can almost certainly help.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed, all the replies have given me a lot to work on and hopefully help me in my quest for more information about my forbears.
