Thanks everyone for taking a look. I have managed to follow back his mothers lineage using the census information available through ancestry.co.uk.
It's his childhood and siblings I had come to a dead end with.
It was my understanding that when his mother married he had been placed into Brixham boys home as her husband would not take on another mans children, I'm unsure what happened about his brother or sister and now doubt whether the boys home story is even correct.

They will charge for making an investigation.
